Over time, the silent conflict between Rabat and Paris in recent years, and
which reached unprecedented tension in relations between the two countries has
begun to unfold.
In a strong testimony , Moroccan-French writer Tahar Ben Jelloun, in
response to a question about the current tension in French-Moroccan relations,
said that "Emmanuel Macron treated the King of Morocco with impoliteness”
Benjelloun added in an interview on the Israeli channel "A24",
according to his sources, which he described as reliable, that Macron's
reaction occurred in the wake of the Pegasus case, and added: "Macron
complained about it to the king, but the king gave a word of honor to Macron
that he did not put him under eavesdropping, and told him I am not of this
type."
Ben Jelloun explained: "But Macron responded in a very clumsy way,
which the king could not accept, because the king gave him a word of honor but
Macron did not believe him, and relations between the two countries were
severed."
"It is no coincidence that after this incident the European
Parliament passed an anti-Moroccan resolution," he added, noting that
Emmanuel Macron believed that by abandoning the traditional Moroccan
friendship, Algerians would reconcile with France..
"Algerians will not stop exploiting memorial rents," the
writer said, noting that the French president made a "strategic mistake
towards France."
